just some thoughts...

so i would like you few who read this to know that you really learn a lot from the kids... for example in reference to my last post about slag words... i had someone text me and ask me about the definition of a word that my students use... every day is a blessing that i have picked this profession. i cannot wait to be a "real" teacher and have kids want to come back year after year to stop by and say "Hi!"

i think the real joy in this job is when a student has an AH HA moment... when they realize that everything you have been teaching them finally makes sense... i cant wait to have days full of AH HA moments!!!

so it is with sad news that i say that i am leaving wichita falls in 2 weeks for good!! i will post later about all the memories i have had in this place and how much i am going to miss it but on to bigger and better things right!!!

Swagg

okay so my 5th graders think that i am totally out of it! hahah and to that they are 95% right but i have friends like brandy who keep me in check.
so what all this blubbering is about, a few of the 5th grade girls think that ms. p knows very little about current culture. well they would be right in the sense that ms.p does not know how to speak ebonics!!! so what do these girls do when they find this out?? well they me a list of words of course!!!! with specific instructions to know all of these words by the end of the year and to be able to use them in a sentence towards someone. let me divulge some of these words with you....
1. kickin'- good or bad
example in a sentence: man your breath is kickin'
treanslation: you have bad breath

2. swagg- style
example in a sentence: oh girl i like your swagg
translation: you look nice, you have a nice style i like it

3. ight- alright

4. ain't i- aren't i

i mean honestly the list goes on and on.... and my response to all of this for my girls was, "who is going to give you a job when you speak like this? How are you going to write a well written paper if you write your paper how you speak??" These girls just sat there and laughed saying and i quote "ms. p you so silly" haha oh how i love teaching never a dull moment

New Semester, New School

So this semester in block 3 i have been put in a new school, the school is Alamo here in Wichita Falls. the school is that of an inner city school, as far as this town is concerned. The kids here come from so many different backgrounds that it really opened my eyes to what really goes on out side of the bubble i live in.

yesterday was really my first day in the classroom with the kids. it was so much fun i was able to teach an entire period a lesson from start to finish with little to no help from the teacher, which i really enjoyed because how else can you learn but being thrown into it and just doing it!

well i get to eat lunch with the kids and so after the lesson i asked if anyone would like to sit with me at lunch, i needed a lunch buddy. Not only did this make me feel like i was in the 5th grade all over again, i was nervous that no one wanted to sit by me, how silly right, im a 23 year old afraid of a bunch of 5th graders and their judgement!! haha well after a long pause one little girl said okay ms p ill sit with you, i was so relieved hahah

at lunch we got talking about our likes and dislikes and our families, i could never imagine living the lives these kids do, so many different things going on, and yet they come to school and smile and have fun and make great grades! i can only hope to be a teacher that inspires them to continue with their education
